Start with the right source
Start with the plated food as it will actually be served. A background cutout can be useful for a menu layout or a reusable ingredient graphic, but a dining scene may better explain the experience. Include the plate and any garnish that belongs to the dish. Keep props separate when they are not part of the order.
Inspect what the edit changes
Inspect steam, cutlery, plate rims and loose herbs. These can be less distinct than the main food shape. A pale plate against a pale table can disappear into the mask, while a strong table shadow may remain. Use the original alongside the export to make sure the portion has not been accidentally reduced or expanded.
Keep these limits in view
Do not change portion size or remove a component that affects what the dish contains. The tool is not a food-allergen labeling system and a clean picture does not substitute for accurate menu text. If the natural shadow explains the plate shape, do not remove it automatically.
Worked workflow
Worked workflow: make a transparent draft, place it on the intended menu color, inspect the rim and garnishes, then export the version the design app accepts. Food-specific accuracy has not been benchmarked in this release.
Keep the original
Use a copy for the prepared version.
Make the local edit
Choose a crop or output format for its destination.
Inspect the export
Check the actual file and the final display.
Save a usable handoff
Choose PNG when another design tool needs a transparent layer. Choose JPG when the destination expects an opaque photograph. WebP is useful when the receiving app accepts it. The download checks the actual output type rather than giving a file a misleading extension.
The editor processes image contents on your device. Background removal downloads the model first, then uses local computation. Keep your original and inspect the exported copy before publishing. The app does not send the finished image to a platform, guarantee acceptance or replace the specialist workflow described above.
