Print and identity

Passport Print Sheets: Layout Without False Guarantees.

A print sheet arranges correctly calculated photo rectangles on a stated physical page. It does not replace a required photographer, certification step or government-approved capture workflow.

Read the production rule first

Before arranging copies, check whether the authority permits the workflow. Some passport processes require a commercial photographer or an approved booth. Some prohibit cutting down a larger picture or digitally altering the source. A sheet generator can satisfy a geometric layout while failing those production requirements, so the official source must come first.

The country pages distinguish the receiving authority and application route. They preserve the original background and face in framing mode. The tool does not run background removal to force an identity photo into compliance. A source that violates lighting or appearance requirements needs a suitable capture, not merely a new canvas.

The sheet sizes differ

Using the exact 25.4 millimeters per inch conversion, a 4 × 6 inch sheet measures 101.6 × 152.4 mm. A 10 × 15 centimeter sheet measures 100 × 150 mm. Those dimensions are close but not identical. Selecting the wrong print-paper setting can change placement or scaling even when the on-screen layout looks similar.

At the tool’s 600-pixel-per-inch layout setting, the inch sheet is 2,400 × 3,600 pixels. The metric sheet is computed from its millimeter dimensions and rounded to whole pixels. These are layout calculations, not claims about a particular printer’s minimum required resolution.

Worked example: verify the physical output

Choose the country guide, position the original within its framing aid and export the intended sheet size. In the print dialog, select the matching physical paper and disable automatic fit or enlargement. Print a test and measure the photo rectangle, not just the outer paper. Compare it with the authority’s stated physical dimensions.

If the measurement is wrong, inspect the print scaling before changing the crop. A correctly generated sheet can be resized by the printer workflow. Conversely, a correct paper setting cannot fix a source that was framed incorrectly. Diagnose the layout and print stages separately.

Head guides are visual aids

Where a source publishes a numerical head-height range, the tool shows a proportional guide. It does not detect the crown or chin and does not certify that the person is correctly positioned. Use the authority’s own diagram to understand the landmarks and any rules for hair or head coverings.

Where the source does not publish a numerical range, the tool does not invent one. Precision in the interface should reflect precision in the evidence. A plausible-looking ellipse without an official basis would make the tool appear more authoritative than its source allows.

Keep the acceptance boundary clear

A successful export means a file was created. A measured print confirms physical dimensions under the tested settings. Neither establishes government acceptance. Appearance, recency, expression, background, paper, certification and application route can all remain relevant.

Keep the original and the official source available while preparing the application. If the authority requires professional production, use the sheet only as a framing reference or skip it entirely. A useful tool should make that limit visible before the user spends time printing an ineligible photograph.

Put this method into practice: open the relevant local image tool →. Keep your original and inspect the exported copy.

Questions that come up

Are 4 × 6 inches and 10 × 15 cm identical?

No. The exact inch conversion gives 101.6 × 152.4 mm, compared with 100 × 150 mm for the metric sheet.

Why does the download have a different DPI tag?

Canvas export metadata can use a default value. Set the intended physical sheet size explicitly and verify the printed dimensions.

Does a head overlay check compliance?

No. It is a visual framing aid derived from a published range where available, not a face detector or acceptance test.
