These sizes concern profile assets, not post images. The interface can crop the header differently across screens, so keep the subject near the middle.
Open a local preset
These presets set a canvas with the stated width and height. They preserve the source proportions with white margins if the image does not fit. To fill the whole area, crop a copy to the target shape first, then resize it. This avoids turning a face into an oval or making a product look wider than it really is.
Design for the final preview
Put the recognizable part of the subject near the center while leaving room for the platform’s interface. A circle avatar hides the corners of a square image. A wide header may be partly covered by a profile photo or cropped on a narrow screen. Those display choices do not change the dimensions of your original file, but they do change what a viewer sees.
Check the preview after publishing, not just the exported file on your desktop. Fine text and narrow outlines can be difficult to read at small display sizes even when the source looks sharp. Simplify the composition or make those elements larger instead of repeatedly increasing the file dimensions. More pixels cannot repair a poorly framed source.
Keep an editable original
Save the best source separately from the version made for this slot. Use a meaningful local filename so that an avatar is not confused with a header or an ad. Backdropless does not send the filename to an analytics service. It also does not publish to your social account; the final upload remains a separate action you control.
The table only includes fields supported by the linked source. It does not guess missing safe-area measurements, invent a universal file cap or imply that unrelated placement rules are identical. If your uploader shows a different requirement, follow that specific workflow and check the source date before reusing an old preset.
Questions that come up
Are these official dimensions?
The table reports the linked publisher’s guidance for the named surface. Recommended dimensions are labeled as recommendations, not universal upload requirements.
Why does my image look different after upload?
The platform can crop, resize, composite or re-encode the file. Check its final preview on the devices where the image will be seen, especially around profile overlays and rounded crops.
Can I prepare this without uploading my source photo?
Yes. The Backdropless preset works locally. You choose whether to upload the finished copy to the platform afterward.
